Conquer Your Fears; Find Courage, # 2

We’ve all had times in our lives when worries tend to overwhelm us. Mentally and emotionally we keep returning to our concerns and going round and round in circles thinking about them. Wouldn’t you like to have a way to stop that?

Ten Life States

In Buddhism there are ten states of life, which we experience each day. The lower levels include fears and negative states of mind, such as hell, hunger (greed) and anger. The higher levels include rapture, learning, realization and the highest, a state of infinite compassion, unshakeable happiness and boundless wisdom, called Buddhahood. We want to be able to rise out of the negative states and into the positive ones. Fortunately anyone can do this.

How to Change Your Life State

Sit comfortably, find a focal point on the wall and chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo. While chanting you can leave negative states behind, fairly quickly. How do I Start Chanting At Home)

When you first start to chant, you will feel better for a while but may return to your normal state of mind later in the day. The longer you chant daily the more the higher state locks in. One practitioner, was frequently having anxiety attacks when he first started chanting. He doesn’t know when it happened but realized one day he no longer suffered from anxiety.

How Does It Work?

To tell you the truth, I can’t explain it. It’s rather like turning on a light. We don’t have to know how electricity works when we flip the switch. Chanting is like this. You don’t have to know how Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo works and you don’t have to believe in it before you can use it to your advantage.
