Now that I have discussed some of the reasons to chant, you might be curious about how you start chanting. In this post I am going to show you how to find and listen to the chant and how to chant for a goal.
Why We Chant
We chant in order to be able to connect with the highest level of life within which is our Buddha Nature. This is the enlightened, universal level within each of us. When we chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo over and over we are able to tap that level of life and bring its attributes out to be used in everyday life. These include unshakable happiness, wisdom, and compassion.

Try the Ninety Day Experiment
Once you have heard the chant and have had a chance to practice saying it, then it is time to try the 90 day experiment. Here are the steps.
Select a Goal
Think through the things that you want to have happen in your life. Is there a particular goal that you really want to achieve that would be a stretch but not something that is too big to believe? This might be really good goal for the ninety-day experiment. Make it specific so that you’ll know when you get it.
Formulate A Specific, Positive Goal
You’ll want to make this a positive goal. This means state your goal as something you want. For example, if I were to try and lose weight I would want to state my goal as my goal weight. For example, I want to weigh 130 pounds. Don’t state it as a negative goal. I want to lose 25 pounds. You’ll get a better result with a positive goal.
Set a Focal Point
Find a comfortable chair which can face a wall. Then imagine a rectangle on the wall, your focal point. When you begin to chant, think of your goal and start chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo.
Once you set your intention your mind may wander. That’s ok. Don’t try to force anything. Just chant comfortably for ten minutes and go on with your day.
Chant 5-10 Minutes Daily
If you are going to give the experiment a good try, then try chanting daily. It is consistency which gives good results. Chanting hit or miss won’t give you the results you are looking for and if you’re doing the 90 day experiment you want to see if the practice really works.
